FINAL INSTRUCTIONS

ESOC/TAY Regional event & SOL 2

All competitors are reminded that they take part at their own risk and are responsible for their own safety.  Courses go to varying degrees through open exposed areas.  Suitable weather protection and whistles will be mandatory in the event of bad weather.

 

TRAVEL               

 

Turn off the A9 on to the A923 to Dunkeld.  After 0.5km, turn east onto the A984, just after the bridge.  After approximately 3km, there is a sharp bend to the right, immediately take the track to the left.

 

PARKING             

 

Cars follow the track approximately 700m into assembly field.

Minibuses turn into track and follow signs.

There is a £1.50 charge for all vehicle parking.

Buses, there is no suitable parking area near.  Passengers should be dropped off near the track into the area and walk to the field.  Buses may be parked in Dunkeld.  Please phone the organiser if bringing a bus.

There is restricted exit before 1.00pm as the entry route and exit route uses the same track.

Any potential problems such as wishing to depart early, please phone the organiser.

 

ENQUIRIES and ENTRIES ON THE DAY

 

Enquiries and entries on the day will be located in the assembly field.

Enquiries will be open from 10.30am.

 

Pre-entered competitors with their own SI card and correctly paid should proceed to the start.

Pre-entered competitors with their own SI card and money still to pay, should go to enquiries, and then proceed to the start.

Pre-entered competitors without SI cards should hire their card at enquiries, and then proceed to the start.

 

Competitors who have not pre-entered should go to enquiries for entry on the day.

 

Enquiries will include registration for Colour Coded Courses, as well as entry on the day for SOL courses.

A limited number of pre-printed maps for SOL courses will be available on a first come first served basis.

Entry fees, £9.50 senior, £5.00 junior.

SI to hire 50p.

 

The following colour coded courses are available

White, Yellow, Orange and Light Green.  A limited number of pre-printed Colour Coded maps will be available, thereafter, master maps will be used.

Colour coded entry fees, £5.00 senior, and £3.00 junior.

 

FACILITIES

 

Toilets, in the assembly field.

First aid provided by the St Andrews Ambulance, in the assembly field.

Traders, Compasspoint, in the assembly field.

String course adjacent to assembly field.

Dogs should be kept on a lead in the assembly field.  No dogs elsewhere in the area please.

CONTROL DESCRIPTIONS

 

Control descriptions will be printed on all maps.  Written descriptions will be used for courses 1 and 2.

IOF pictorial descriptions will be used for courses 3 to 11.

Loose descriptions for all courses will be available at enquiries.

 

MAPS

 

1:10,000 5m contours, new map.        Courses 1 to 7 A4 size of map, courses 8 to 11 A3 size of map.

 

TERRAIN

 

Varied!  Plenty of contour and rock detail; deciduous and conifer woodland; rough grassland, hill pasture, marshy areas, bracken (dead), heather (thick).

 

IMPORTANT INSTRUCTIONS

 

We have been allowed to go through a SSSI (designated for the largest juniper growth in Perthshire).  Courses 8, 9, 10, and 11 go through it.  Be very careful not to damage any juniper.  We have been asked to take before and after photos at three controls.

 

Where your course goes to a crossing point, please use it.  If there is a choice of two, use one.

 

There are marked stiles/crossing points to be used when crossing deer fences.  Please do not stand on the wire.

 

For courses 10 and 11 there is one wall with two fence wires on top to be crossed and no specified crossing point.  Please take care not to dislodge any stones.

 

If requested, please ensure you close any gates.

 

Electric fences will be switched off, but should only be crossed at marked points.

 

The area is a new area with three main landowners and we wish to create the best possible impression.  Please report any damage at the finish.

 

Please stay clear of highland cattle, especially where there are calves.

 

STARTS

 

Maps for SOL courses 1 and 2 and colour coded white and yellow will be collected at enquiries in the assembly area.

These maps will not be available at the start.

It is the competitor’s responsibility to collect their map before proceeding to the start.

 

There is one start for all competitors 400m distant, 60m ascent from the assembly.

 

Starts are from 11.00am to 1.00 pm   Call up will be at -3 minutes.  Late competitors should report to the start official and will be started at the next available slot.

 

RACE PROCEDURES

 

Using the SI system at controls

After inserting your SI card in the unit on the T bar, ensure you hear the beep and see the unit flash.  This indicates the unit has recorded the information on the SI card.  If this does not happen, use the pin punch on the T bar to mark the edge of the map.

Report any problems at download.

 

FINISH AND DOWNLOAD 

 

The finish is 500m from the assembly area.  At the finish insert your SI card into the finish station.  Timing will then stop.  Proceed immediately to the download tent in the assembly area, where you will receive your split times.

 

Please return any hired SI cards at download.  A charge will be made for lost or non returned hired SI cards.

 

All competitors must report to the finish and download their SI card, even if they do not complete the course.

 

On the day results will be displayed in the assembly field.
